The Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge uses part of its profits to develop projects for the local community. The health crisis sparing no one, the lodge is generating less profit but we still want to continue to carry out our projects. This is why we are calling on you. If you wish to support our action in general or a particular project, any participation is welcomed.

1. TIMAN
" My name is Timan Ndakari Mollel. I am a young resident of Engaresero village. I'm 22 years old and I'm from a family of 40 peoples because my father got 5 wives and every wife has 5, 7 or 8 children. My father has passed away in 2008, so we all depend on our mother to eat and to go to school. In our father family I have been lucky to be the first person who went to school. I started my primary education in 2008 until 2013, then I have been selected for secondary education in 2014 until 2017. Then I started a course to become a tour guide at Sila College in Arusha City with the help of The Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge and got my certificate.
Today, my willing and dream is to attend other courses to get a higher level of diploma. But before that, I would like to learn one or more extra languages like French and German, as well as taking driving lessons to get my driving license. At that moment, I will have fulfilled all criteria to become a professional tour guide".
2. ALTARETOI
"My name is Altaretoi Ndakari Mollel. I was born in Engaresero village which is in Arusha region, in Ngorongoro district in the northern part of Tanzania. I was born in 2000. I'm the brother of Timan. Our father passed away in 2008, so now we remain as children of a single parent who is our mother. Our family is a cattle keeper, that means that we are keeping animals like cows, sheeps, goats and others. I started my primary education at Engaresero village in 2010 and I completed my primary education in 2016. Then I passed my primary national examination and I get lucky to be selected for secondary education in 2017. I completed my secondary education in 2020. I would like to attend an higher level of education but my mother is not able to afford all the school needs like school fees and other school costs.
My willing and dream is to become a doctor, but before all I would like to take a computer applications course because this is the best and great route to reach this level of education".
3. SINGIRA
“My name is Singira Lomelock Leshushu. I was born in Engaresero village that located in Ngorongoro district in Arusha region in the Northern part of Tanzania. I am about 17 years old, I'm the second born in my family, family of six children. Our main activity is keeping livestock like cows, goats and sheeps.
I started my studies in 2010 in Engaresero primary school and finished it in 2016. I succeeded to join the Lake Natron secondary school in 2017 and finished this level in 2020. My dream is to be a lawyer, so I would like to join the lawyership college… but for this level of education, my parents are not able to afford all the school needs. So I’m asking for help from anyone please. Furthermore I want to thanks Maasai Giraffe Eco Lodge for there assist on the previous level. Thank you for read my note”.
4. NGININA
“My name is Nginina Sung'are, I was born on the 12 January 1996 at Irikereyani village in Ngorongoro district in Arusha region. Our family consists of father and mother with nine children (3 warriors, 3 girls and 3 young brothers). We could have been 10 in the family but the first born of the family passed away due to a snake accident in 2001. At that time, my father got sick so my mother was the only one to take care of us. Our mother took our father to the hospital but they couldn't treat him so she decided to sell more cows, took him to the maasai doctor and succeed to cure him. In 2005 our first sister got married and since 2007 all of our sisters are married. My mother says it's better to go to school because all of our sisters didn't go to school. She started with my brothers in 2005. By that time, I was the one who’s carrying out the family duties until my brothers come back from school. But I wanted to go to school in order to know and speak Swahili language so I told my mother to take me to school and she agreed about that in 2011. I finished primary school in 2017, I passed my national examination and join secondary education at Sambu secondary school untill 2020. I didn't finish my secondary education because I wanted to study about tourism and management so I went straight to the tourism and management college thanks to the help of the owner of Maasai Giraffe Eco lodge (Ingrid torrekens). I have started this year 2021 and until now I'm studying. My Future plan is to become a professional tour guide and certified my management education ».
HEALTH INSURANCE CARDS : The health insurance cards we provided last year to some 400 Maasai families will soon be invalid. One card costs 30000 TZS (13-14 euros) and provides health insurance coverage for 6 family members for one year.
INTRODUCTION TO AGRICULTURE : Our project is to finance pipes to bring water from the mountains directly to the Maasai bomas so that the mamas can develop their own vegetable garden. At the moment, there is no water in the bomas, so the mamas have to fetch it on their backs or with their donkeys from the river.
